SI4734/4735 All-band radio

Just placed an order for some SI4734/4735.

Those are the Silabs' all-band digitally tuned radio. Minimum external parts required.

highlight of features:
1) 1khz tunning for all am bands (am, sw and lw).
2) user selectable bandwidth filter (1, 2, 3, 4 and 6khz).
3) defeatable emphasis / de-emphasis.

IC for ham? no. ham is mostly dead in that people don't build them anymore. transceivers are everywhere and reasonably affordable.

so for those who do want to build their own shack, it is mostly done via discrete parts, or in the case of direct conversion receivers, some 74-series analog switchers - as mixer and as detector.

this is the SI4734D60 chip in ssop packaging (the latest revision). they are tiny! the pitch is 0.65bsc I think.

I got some SI4735D60 chip in QFN packaging as well.

the project is starting, slowly but surely.

also, to see how the chips perform, I got a Tecsun PL380 radio. great FM performance (sensitive and selective). good SW performance (on par with m 7600g and better than 2010). dreadful AM performance.

the ergonomics of the radio is terrible.
