we all know that simulation is just as good as the underlying models. if you have a crappy model, your simulation will be crappy.
I wanted to know how accurate the PIC models in Proteus are. so I set out a simple simulation where I would use a timer to generate cycle count and display that count on a graphic LCD.
as a test of the internal RC oscillators in the PIC, I also opted to use the internal RC oscillator in a PIC16F684 which has a factory calibrated OSCCAL.
in Proteus, after about 30 seconds, the model displayed 30.26 seconds.
In real life, after about 30 seconds, the LCD displayed 30.26 seconds.
so in 30 seconds' time (that's about 30 million computer cycles), the Proteus model is accurate up to 1/100th of a second. that's pretty amazing accuracy for the model as well as the internal oscillator. |
